Police have confirmed a manhunt is underway after a fatal stabbing in Ipswich.

Emergency services were called to Burrell Road shortly after 7.10pm yesterday (6th August) following reports that a woman had been stabbed.

Officers attended and found a woman, in her late twenties, with serious injuries.

Despite their best efforts, the woman died shortly after they arrived.

There is a police cordon at the scene and a road closure is in place at Burrell Road while enquiries take place.

"There is an ongoing manhunt"

No arrests have been made at this time, but Superintendent Andy Martin, from Suffolk Police tells us they are looking for a suspect: "There is an ongoing manhunt to find this individual using significant resources.

"We started looking for the offender immediately last night and efforts have continued since then.

"I can't give many more details yet, but you will see an increased police presence in the area over the coming days...

"I'm encouraging people not to speculate on who may or may not be involved, or the nature of the circumstances."

"These are devastating circumstances"

He also acknowledged the public will be feeling nervous: "Understandably the public are going to be concerned, as this is the second murder we've had in the Ipswich area in the last few weeks.

"I too would be concerned by that but what I can say is that over the last few years we have seen a positive reduction in violent crime in Ipswich.

"These are devastating circumstances but this incident isn't connected to any other incidents and we don't believe there's a risk to the wider public."
