A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash in a Leicestershire town.

Officers from Leicestershire Police were alerted to a collision that took place near Tilton-on-the-Hill at 7:48pm on Friday (September 13th).

Responders from the East Midlands Ambulance Service had already been in attendance and had called the force for extra help.

When police arrived, they found a man requiring serious medical treatment, as well as a horse who had been badly injured.

It is believed that a silver Kia Sportage had collided with the 19-year-old man, who had been driving a horse and carriage during the incident.

The victim was rushed to hospital by paramedics, where he currently remains in a serious but stable condition. He is being treated for his injuries.

Meanwhile, the horse was transported to a local vet where it is also receiving urgent medical care.

No other injuries have been reported, and detectives investigating the collision are now appealing for information that could help in their enquiries.

Speaking at the launch of the appeal, Detective Constable Madeleine Hayes, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "A man remains in hospital in a serious condition. We are continuing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and what has happened.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision and who witnessed the incident, or saw either of the vehicles beforehand, to please get in touch if you have not already spoken with police.

"Similarly, if you have any dashcam footage from the area, please check this and make contact."

Anyone who may have any information get in touch with the force by calling the force on 101 and quoting incident reference number 24*549033.
