Man charged with murder after serious assault in Ipswich in 2019

Detectives investigating an incident of grievous bodily harm from 2019 have charged a man with murder.

The incident occurred at approximately 4am on Tuesday 9 June 2019 on Harland Street Ipswich.

A 40-year-old man was assaulted at his home address and sustained extensive head and facial injuries and internal abdominal pain.

The suspect then made off from the area and fled the country.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries. He later passed away in 2021.

Since 2019, police have continued to investigate the crime.

On Friday 31 March, 30 year-old Edgars Slavinkski, from Ipswich, was seen in the UK at Stansted airport.

He was then arrested for assault and taken into police custody for questioning.

He has subsequently been charged with murder and committing an act / series of acts with intent to pervert the course of public justice. His details are as follows:

He has been remanded in custody and appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court yesterday, 1 April 2023.
