Police reopen Kersal Dale as officers continue murder investigations

Greater Manchester Police have made the decision to reopen Kersal Wetlands as their murder investigations continue.
Human remains were found at Kersal Dale in Salford on April 5th, with police now working to identify the person whose "significant body part" was discovered by a member of the public.
Since then, investigations into the murder have continued. Police were able to discern that the body part belonged to a male who was aged in his 40s.
As well as this, officers found that the body parts had been left at the area for a number of days before being stumbled across.
Following investigations at the scene, Greater Manchester Police decided to close the scene for their enquiries, as those looking into the murder combed through the rest of the wetlands themselves.
However, officers have made the decision on Saturday (April 20th) to reopen a scene close to Great Clowes Street which also stretches into the wetlands themselves.
Detective Superintendent Lewis Hughes from the force's Serious Crime Division explained the reasoning for the reopening of a crime scene in the area.
"Whilst our extensive search of the area was completed last week, we have some further enquiries that we are looking to exhaust during the course of the day," he said.
"I would like to reassure you that this is precautionary. Every piece of intelligence we receive is investigated thoroughly, leaving no stone unturned to give us the best chance of finding out who our victim is and what happened to him."
Mr Hughes said that the force will be at the scene for several hours and added that there would be no added disruption to the local community. He also thanked residences for their co-operation in the investigation so far.
He also re-appealed for any potential information that could help police in their enquiries, adding that anyone with concerns can speak to officers who will be at the scene.
