A Falkirk man travelling to Germany in a 1960s Volkswagen campervan to see Scotland play in the Euros is telling us about bumping into Ewan McGregor on his travels.

John McIntosh has lost his headlights since he set off last Friday and has a leak in the break system, but remains determined to carry on.

He told Planet Rock: "My first stop on the journey was Amsterdam and just as I was coming off the ferry he was waving at me with the TV presenter, Charlie Boorman.

"He just seemed astonished a vehicle this age is still on the roads and we had a chat about where I was going.

"He seems like a very humble guy."

John plans to remain in Germany for as long as Scotland are doing well and can work online while he is out there.

He added: "I've been welcomed with open arms, the Germans are the most hospitable people I've ever met and like a drink just as much as the Scots.

"A couple of my mates have had to stay back home because they've got wives and jobs.

"On one side of the van, I've paid homage to Archie Gemmill scoring against Holland in 1978 and Ewan refers to this moment in Trainspotting."
