Third person charged with attempted murder of a man in Dagenham

Two teenagers had previously been charged with the same crime

The Metropolitan Police have charged a third person in connection with the attempted murder of a man in Dagenham.

The third person, a teenage boy aged 17, was arrested by officers in Birmingham on Friday (May 17th) in connection to the incident.

Following his arrest, he was remanded in custody by police and questioned on his role in the attack, before being formally charged on Saturday.

In total, the teenager is charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, being in possession of a pointed/bladed article in a public place and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

As a result of this, the teenager will be seen at Barkingside Youth Court on Monday (May 20th) charged with the attempted murder of the man.

Officers first received reports of an incident taking place on Thursday, May 2nd, at around 5:20 p.m.. The force had received reports that a man had been stabbed, though shots were soon heard not long after the first call was received.

When responders arrived on the scene, they found a 19-year-old man requiring emergency medical treatment after suffering a stabbing injury.

Emergency services were quick to give the man immediate medical treatment and take him to hospital, where it was confirmed he had been stabbed and shot.

Currently, the victim remains in hospital, where his condition has been described as "critical", according to medical professionals.

Previously two other 17-year-oldt teenagers were arrested in the Ashford area of Kent on May 10th. The pair were brought back to London and appeared at the Youth Court on Monday (May 13th).

Following this, both suspects were remanded in police custody and are next set to appear at the Old Bailey in Central London on June 10th.

In the meantime, investigations are ongoing and police are continuing to appeal for information as they piece together the events leading up to the attack.
