Bosses at Manchester Airport have cancelled all flights from Terminals 1 and 2 until further notice - as they continue to deal with the aftermath of a power cut overnight.

They say that despite the power being restored quickly, the outage has impacted important systems used to run the airport - meaning there are major delays to the processing of boarding cards and the screening of bags.

Terminal 3 has been affected, but the delays which are causing the major issues are only impacting T1 and T2.

The advice for passengers due to fly from Terminal 3 is to still come to the airport as normal - unless you're told otherwise by your airline.

Long queues were reported at the airport in the early hours of this morning, and passengers travelling later are being urged to check their flight is running before arriving at the airport.

This afternoon, bosses are also urging people picking up passengers to check where their flight is landing before setting out - but have thanked everyone for their patience as they deal with the aftermath of the power cut.

They add they are 'working hard' to restore services back to normal 'as quickly as possible'.

If your flight has been rescheduled, bosses at the airport tell us these will likely be pushed back to later today - or tomorrow.

A Manchester Airport spokesperson told us earlier this morning: "Manchester Airport was affected by a major power cut in the area.

"This has caused widespread disruption and a significant number of flights, particularly from Terminals 1 and 2, are expected to be delayed or cancelled. Passengers due to travel from Terminals 1 or 2 today are advised to contact their airlines for up-to-date information before coming to the airport.

"Passengers due to fly from Terminal 3 should come to the airport as normal unless advised otherwise by their airline but could be affected by delays. We apologise for any inconvenience and aim to restore normal service as soon as possible."
