ZZ Top Announce Chile Benefit

Texan trio to be one of the first rock acts to head to the country since the earthquake

ZZ Top have announced a benefit show for last month’s earthquake victims in Chile.

The band will play at Santiago’s Movistar Arena on 18 May to help generate aid and awareness for the victims of the 27 February earthquake that killed several hundred people and reportedly left more than a million homeless.

"The whole world knows about the effects caused by the earthquake that happened in your beautiful country," Gibbons said in a (translated) video statement. "We know that the Chilean spirit can never be broken and that right now it is stronger than ever. We hope that you can join us for a special night."

Here’s the statement by Gibbons delivered in pretty impeccable Spanish:

ZZ Top head to the UK in July when they headline the High Voltage Festival at Victoria Park on 24 July.
