Zakk Wylde watching YouTube tutorials to learn Pantera parts

Zakk Wylde is one of the most instantly recognizable rock and metal guitarists around.

He’s toured the world and enjoyed huge success as a long-time collaborator with Ozzy Osbourne, with his own bands including Black Label Society and as a solo artist.

It turns out though, like many a six-stringer struggling with a tricky part, he’s not beyond turning to a YouTube tutorial.

Wylde will soon be off on the road as part of the highly anticipated Pantera tour and he’s revealed that he used tutorials to try to work out some of the late Dimebag Darrell’s moves.

Speaking to Ola Englund on the latest episode of ‘Sunday With Ola’, the guitarist said: “Any of these things that I got stumped on, I was, like, ‘What the hell was that?’

“I would just go, ‘How to play’ and I’d go on to YouTube and just see all these other amazing players playing the stuff.”

He said that he would be meeting up with the rest of the band soon to rehearse and work through material ahead of the tour.

“I’ll be hooking up with the fellas. And then we just start going over everything and just probably go over it nice and quiet, until we can start firing it up and just go full volume,” he said.

He also revealed that some of the songs he’s been working on are ‘Goddamn Electric’, ‘Walk’, ‘Cowboys From Hell’ and ‘A New Level’

Wylde recently said that he considered the Pantera tour to be more of a tribute than a reunion.

In an interview with Ultimate Guitar he said: “It was so funny, because somebody was like, 'It's not Pantera!' Of course it's not Pantera. Laughs

“It's Phil, Rex and two of their buddies getting together to honor Dime, Vinnie and all their achievements."

He added: "It's a celebration of Pantera and all the mountains they conquered. It's the way I look at it."
