After running, cycling and walking across England, Scotland and Wales for 10 days, Wyatt has completed his colossal 700-mile Road to Rockstock challenge.
A tired but triumphant Wyatt crossed the finish line at Trecco Bay, home of Planet Rockstock, on Friday afternoon and he was greeted with cheers, chants of ‘Wyatt! Wyatt!’, and tickertape explosions.
Thanks to generous donations from Planet Rock listeners, Wyatt has raised more than £50,000 for our official charity Cash for Kids, which will be used to support children and young people across the country with their mental health. You can still donate RIGHT HERE.
Speaking to Mark Jeeves shortly after completing the challenge, Wyatt quipped: “I missed the bus!
“Well, I'm going to write secrets that Dinah Washington song, ‘What a Diff'rence a Year Makes’. Man, it feels good to just be here. Not in tears, knowing I'm not going to hospital anytime soon.”
“I can't express… I can try and express my gratitude to the people that came out, the people that were sending messages online, the social media stuff. The people coming out to greet me. It’s been really great having you lot with me, so thank you so much.”
Asked by Mark what the hardest part of the challenge was, Wyatt replied emphatically: “Day one, the London Marathon. When did they build Hampstead Heath?! I'm from North London. The clue’s in Haverstock Hill, Hampstead Heath Hill. It's like I'm half an hour (from the start) and I'm thinking, ‘Yeah, London's not as flat as it used to be!’ So, the marathon was probably the hardest. And then, I'd say yesterday the Brecon Beacons, god! They've been on steroids. Wow.
“It's been tough, of course, but I've got to be honest, training and working out does work. Just gets you healthy, gets you fit.”
Wyatt continued: “I did a thing where I was grading each day on the difficulty. Today was probably a seven and a half. That biblical downpour was like, ‘Wales, is this is this all you got now? Too little, too late!’ So, yeah, it was difficult. Of course it was hard.”
“There was drama and there was a lot of messing around and a lot of things going wrong behind the scenes. Not with Andy and me, just technology and just stuff. It's like, ‘wow, someone really doesn't want us to get there.’ Even today, I've walked an extra three miles because the SAT Nav was trying to take me through Bridgend and out Bridgend and through Bridgend. And then at the end when it started raining, it's like, ‘okay, I'm not going to get in for 2 o’clock unless I run.
“I thought, ‘I'm going to run or run for a couple of miles and get this done.’ So I'm five minutes late, but please indulge me that!”
Thanking everyone who has donated, Wyatt continued: “Firstly, to everyone who donated or shared the page, have done what they can - Thank you so much. It's going to make a big difference! What we've done, it's going to impact lives for the positive, it's going to help lives, it's going to change lives, and in some cases it's going to save lives completely."
