Wolfgang Van Halen has slammed the publication of his late dad Eddie Van Halen’s death certificate online over the weekend.

Celebrity gossip site TMZ ran a story on Sunday (13th December) after they obtained Eddie Van Halen’s death certificate, which revealed the exact causes of Eddie’s death and other highly private information.

The website attached the death certificate as a pdf file to the news story, and the details of have now been reported by numerous other news sites across the globe.

Condemning the article, Wolfgang took to Twitter to write the short and succinct message: “TMZ is scum.”

Wolf’s mum and Eddie Van Halen’s former wife Valerie Bertinelli hit out at the person who leaked the death certificate, writing: “And the person who fed them the info is lower than scum. #subtweet”

Truly one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Eddie Van Halen died aged 65 on 6th October 2020 at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California.

Eddie Van Halen’s Van Halen band mates and musicians from across the rock world led the tributes to the guitar god following his passing.

Last month, Wolfgang Van Halen premiered his debut solo single ‘Distance’, which is a poignant tribute to his dad and was written while Eddie was battling cancer.

Wolfgang Van Halen explains: “As my pop continued to struggle with various health issues, I was imagining what my life would be like without him and how terribly I’d miss him. While the song is incredibly personal, I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their life.”

The accompanying video is a collection of deeply personal clips from home videos from over the years from Wolfgang’s birth in 1991 through to him sharing the stage with his dad as a member of Van Halen.

The ‘Distance’ video ends with a voice recording from Eddie Van Halen to his son, saying: “I’m so happy to have you as my son. I’m so proud of you. I love you so much.”
