Winter's End 2025 line-up

Friday 31st January 2025:

Kira Mac (headliners):

Kira Mac's Rhiannon Hill

When we previewed Kira Mac’s 2023 Winter’s End debut by describing the Mancunian rockers as pretty much epitomising the term ‘fast-rising’, even we didn’t predict they’d be back, just two years later, as headliners. That’s what happens when you’ve got songs as popular as ‘Dead Man Walking’, as immediately identifiable as ‘One Way Ticket’ and as outright, in-your-face killer as ‘Hit Me Again’. Led by the remarkable Rhiannon Hill, one of those singers who can seemingly turn her expansive voice to any shade of emotion, and backed by the rock solid riffs and solos of guitarist Joe Worrall, the band are continuing their fast track development with the confidence and sass they’ve displayed at every stage. Their performances over the past two years have shown the co-ordinated grace of a band clawing its way into ever higher echelons, so expect this Friday headline slot to be both a celebration of the distance travelled and a thrilling preview of just where it’s all heading.

Oli Brown & The Dead Collective:

Oli Brown & The Dead Collective

The prospect of getting reacquainted with the multi-talented Oli Brown and his equally capable band is certainly one to get excited about. The Norfolk-born six-stringer is a purveyor of an especially articulate brand of hard rock, where it’s as much about the darkly luminous atmosphere as it is about the fiery solos. Both elements are in plentiful supply, while Oli – partnered on guitar by Black Star Riders and Wayward Sons guitarist Sam Wood – keeps you guessing as to where his music will go next. What’s certain is that the Dead Collective will take us on a stormy, emotional ride, complete with soaring melodies and music that’s hung heavy with feeling. You can’t fake this sort of thing, and Oli Brown is rapidly becoming its master.

Marisa and The Moths:

Marisa and The Moths

With 2024 album ‘What Doesn’t Kill You’ clearly lifting Marisa Rodriguez and her band to new heights, there’s never been a better time to witness this absorbing and perennially cathartic band in the flesh. Songs like ‘Get It Off My Chest’ and ‘Borderline’ have played a significant part in elevating this deliciously alternative outfit into hearts and homes. It’s turbulent and emotionally purgative music, drawing comparison to Evanescence, Foo Fighters and even In This Moment. Beyond Marisa’s aerial voice and compelling stage presence, the band boasts the exuberant talents of guitarist Alez D'Elia – all sudden injections of feeling and depth. Perhaps the fastest rising band on the Winter’s End ‘undercard’, this is a Friday slot not to miss.

White Raven Down:

White Raven Down

Having made the most of their stage time at 2023’s Planet Rockstock, White Raven Down are making a swift and deserved return to Trecco Bay, this time taking their dynamic and sometimes tormented sounds to the Winter’s End stage. An ambitious band who aren’t afraid to mix sounds and emotions and turn them into one absorbing and occasionally disturbing whole, this outfit have drawn favourable comparisons with the enjoyably gritty King Herd and even the all-conquering Those Damn Crows. Expert in treading their own path with just enough familiarity to hold the attention, the Essex rockers are sure to make the most of their Winter’s End appearance.

Sons of Liberty:

Sons of Liberty

Gritty, Southern-fried rebel yells are likely to be in plentiful supply when Sons Of Liberty open 2025’s Winter’s End on Friday, January 31. Whatever January throws at us, these boys will be taking us to warmer climates, sonically at least. Theirs is the music of the open road, driving rock meets the heavier end of Americana, all blistering in aural heat and with no shortage of weighty guitar riffs – see ‘Time To Fly’ and ‘Light The Fuse’. It’s music to rev bikes to, bubbling low end bass, and big call-out hooks courtesy of new singer Russ Grimmett. The last time Sons Of Liberty played at Winters End (in 2022) they ended their show by throwing packets of beef jerky into the crowd. Will they be offloading free snacks this time around? Only one way to find out.

Saturday 1st February 2025:

Florence Black (headliners):

Florence Black

It’s a headline appearance that has all the makings of a homecoming, and a victorious one at that. To call Florence Black, who hail from Merthyr Tydfil, a power trio would be to considerably undersell the ever-twisting hurricane of sound that they actually create. Led by huge-voiced frontman Tristan Thomas, over the course of two brilliantly constructed albums the band have backed up their heft with songs of the highest quality, and what’s more they’ve honed that musculature on stage to the point of being one of British rock’s most potent young forces. Like many bands of their ilk, they’re often lumbered with the ‘classic rock’ tag, whereas they can in fact channel grungy metal at their weightiest (‘Zulu’), and near hypnotic power balladry (‘Beautiful Lover’) at their lightest. Yes, they’re bringing together a lot of sounds you already love, but the conviction and weight they add to it puts Florence Black into a higher league – and we can’t wait to see what they bring to their Saturday headline slot.

The Treatment:

The Treatment

“We don’t care about the fame or the money; all we wanna do is play,” sings Tom Rampton of The Treatment in 2024 banger ‘Let’s Wake Up This Town’. That kind of positive attitude says a lot about what has kept this storied band together over the years. Hotly tipped when they first emerged, they’ve since shared stages with some real heavyweights (arena tour with Slash, anyone?) but they’ve also endured a host of difficult line-up changes and disappointments along the way. To say that this revived band is pumped up for the next chapter would be an understatement. With this latest line-up looking solid and settled, they’re firing on all cylinders and producing perhaps the best, AC/DC-hued music of their career.

The New Roses:

The New Roses

This most American-sounding of German bands have been winning plenty of friends over the past several years. The reason? They’re pretty much impossible to dislike. Utterly committed to their art, expect these consummate musicians to tear into their set like a pack of hungry wolves. A goodtime, celebratory party machine, they stick it to the man like a fevered combination of AC/DC and 1980s Kiss. ‘Down By The River’ is a nostalgic anthem yearning for youth and equipped with a spectacular chorus, and it’s far from the only one. Expect testosterone-driven old school stampedes aplenty – ‘As The Crow Flies’ being one of many that rocks with the same death-or-glory nihilism that has propelled Airborne this far.

Dan Byrne:

Dan Byrne

Having recently completed a UK tour with hard rock legends Tyketto, the former Revival Black singer is definitely moving into the fast lane. Fronting a superb outfit that includes former members of Kira Mac and Myke Gray’s band – Dan himself used to sing with the Skin legend – expect buoyant and joyfully crafted hard rock. Certainly, it walks in the shadow of the blues but it sure as hell doesn’t mind overtaking slow-moving traffic. While broadly in the tradition of Whitesnake and Skin, Dan has one of those voices that lends itself to a rainbow of styles and emotions – check out the gutsy ‘Hard To Breathe’, bluesy power ballad ‘Death Of Me’ and the aptly libidinous thrust of ‘Like Animals’.

Detroit Run:

Detroit Run

There are some secrets so closely held that the truth seems all the more incredible when revealed. Detroit Run – from Liverpool, despite the name – are surely going to experience an outpouring on similar scale when their freshly crafted aural art is revealed. Almost as if they’ve been doing it for years, they brilliantly combine electronics with skyscraping alternative rock. So beautifully cohesive is it that the only reasonable comparison is with untouchable futurist rockers Starset. Few bands this side of Sleep Token have a more rabidly obsessive fanbase than the latter, so if these newcomers can evoke such comparisons, their slot at Winter’s End could end up being one people are talking about for years.

Creeping Jean:

Creeping Jean

Brighton-based retro fetishists Creeping Jean are one of the more intriguing outfits at this year’s event. They’re effortlessly chic, not just polishing up vintage influences but injecting them with unique character. You could liken them to everyone from the Black Crowes to The Struts, and while such comparisons are worthy, Creeping Jean remain their own men. They’ve got talent and originality to stack alongside their undoubted poise and swagger. Dynamic songs often take you to unexpected destinations – glam-inclined but rounded out by subtle use of keyboards. From sunshine-filled languor to menace and melody, they pretty much do it all. It’s a special chemistry, and not one to miss.

Chloe Mogg:

Chloe Mogg

Since the release of her 2023 debut album ‘The Crazy One’, Chloe Mogg has been catching more than a few ears with her astute and sharp-edged indie rock. Citing a spectrum of influences, the Worcestershire-based artist delivers the sort of music that gets under your skin the more you hear it, equal parts assertive and accessible. ‘Permission’, for example, has an endearing echo of Alanis Morissette about it, but builds towards a twisty climax, while ‘Bryony’ sets out the coolest of hooks on grungy, psychedelia-kissed backdrops. She’s been likened to a new world Stevie Nicks, but ultimately her work is a welcome expression of individualism. As Chloe herself shares: “You are the main character in your story – do what’s best for you.”

Daylight Robbery:

Daylight Robbery

Midlands rockers Daylight Robbery have been doing things their way for years now – they’ll release their fourth album in 2024 and have played alongside a host of greats. That impact certainly isn’t lost on them – their own anthem ‘Godz’ is a heartfelt tribute to the classic rockers of the past, the influential artists to whom they (and we) owe so much. Daylight Robbery themselves play astutely judged melodic rock amped up with big hooks and a delivery that can only be the work of experienced musicians. True to their heritage, ‘Edwards No 8’ even salutes the legendary Birmingham venue where so many great bands took their first steps towards success.

Sunday 2nd February 2025:

H.E.A.T. (headliners):

H.E.A.T.

What’s the best way to conclude a long weekend of non-stop rock action? Well, how about a headline performance from just about the finest melodic rock band of their generation, unstoppably buoyant Swedish champs H.E.A.T? Over the past several years, they’ve moved with such velocity and made such artistic headway that it’s left fans a little dizzy. Even reuniting with original frontman Kenny Leckremo didn’t halt their stride. So many bands of their generation have courageously tried – and failed – to emulate past heroes like the Scorpions and Europe. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about these tireless Swedes is that they’ve not merely broken the cycle, but they’ve actually raised the bar. You can expect the musclebound pump of ‘Rock Your Body’, the insanely exuberant ‘Hollywood’, plus roof-rattling anthems like ‘Dangerous Ground’ and ‘Back To The Rhythm’. You can also expect them to be played with unquenchable energy and desire to connect. Put it this way, if you’re coming to Winter’s End, you won’t be heading home early.

Laurence Jones:

Laurence Jones

Even as Planet Rock’s Paul Anthony was introducing him at 2022’s Winter’s End, Laurence Jones was grinning ear-to-ear over the presenter’s shoulder. Unusually cheerful of manner for a blues guy, Laurence plays loping, groove-drinking riffs with gusto, and that’s before you get to his neat hooks and ascendent, airborne solos. Though a singer-songwriter first, Laurence’s music is clearly rooted in the blues, but don’t expect it to be too languid – songs like ‘Lonely Road’ have pace and vigour, not unlike something from a Thunder album. Of course, those blues tropes won’t be forgotten, the emotive breakdowns and soul-searching lyrics are all part of it – all quite enough to hypnotise a Winters End crowd in its soothing thrall.

MuddiBrooke:

MuddiBrooke

Alice didn’t hesitate to plunge headlong into that rabbit hole, and neither should you when confronted with the no less intriguing lure of Derbyshire alt rock trio MuddiBrooke. Led by the brilliant Brooke, this noisy but mesmeric band produce fully formed sounds, evocative and deliciously layered. The likes of ‘Devil’ and ‘ADHD’ come with grungy rock shadows amid piercing melodic sunlight. There are strange and perhaps conflicting emotions at play within these choppy, assertive and fragrantly tuneful grooves. As well as tipping the hat to current luminaries like Wolf Alice and the legendary Skunk Anansie, Brooke’s enough of her own woman to take you to unexpected destinations. Their Winter’s End debut will be an interesting and emotional trip, so come on, plunge right in.

Serpentyne:

The art of symphonic metal must be one of rock’s biggest challenges – inevitably your band is going to be compared to Nightwish, which is a bit like being a clay court tennis player whose record is only ever judged alongside that of Rafael Nadal. British outfit Serpentyne, however, do a fine job of combining cinematic metal, classical, folk and operatic elements into a sumptuous whole. With two albums to their credit, they’re the brainchild of talented frontwoman Maggiebeth Sand who invests this band’s vast sound with both warmth and clarity. She’s the human element within a cavernous amalgam of listening pleasure – all of which means makes their Winter’s End appearance a fascinating prospect.

DeVere:

DeVere

The old school didn’t die – it just took an extended summer break. That, at least, is what firebrand London rockers DeVere will be hoping, and in fairness, once you hear ‘Again’ and realise just how good they are at recapturing that metallic glam vibe of decades past, you’ll probably agree. There might be a flash of ‘Shout At The Devil’-era Crüe in the quartet’s DNA, but there’s more to them than that. Far less shambolic than bands from glam metal’s early days, there are echoes of W.A.S.P, Kiss and even Shotgun Messiah in these well produced, skilfully wrought anthems. A new band sprinting straight outta the blocks, even their lyric videos are getting thousands of hits. Winter’s End might just be their launch pad.

Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse:

Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse

If the apocalypse ever does get forecast, you could do a lot worse than spend those final hours immersed in the blues-born, Southern rock-fired sounds of this unique, multinational outfit that’s soon gonna be shaking its thang all over Trecco Bay. New album ‘Hot Nostalgia Radio’, their third, features Planet Rock favourite ‘Satisfy Your Queen’ and the no less energetic ‘Oh Yeah’, both perfect examples of mixing up traditional influences to create something that’s clearly all theirs. The fantastically colourful Greta Valenti, a burst of blue-haired energy and on point vocals, is joined by British-born guitarist Robin Davey, the youngest ever inductee into the UK Blues Hall of Fame. They’ve been perfecting their chemistry for years, and have never sounded more party-ready than right now – don’t miss their Sunday afternoon slot.

LN:

LN

If you’ve ever trodden warily through ancient forests or foggy mountains and got the impression that you’re not quite alone, rest assured you aren’t the only one to feel that way. Newcastle band LN embrace historical pagan roots in their multi-faceted music which instinctively ranges from gently alluring folk to blasts of Nordic-leaning metal. Take ‘Mothers’, their most recent offering, an initially eerie semi-acoustic trip that might evoke memories of somewhere like Dartmoor’s Wistman’s Wood in its primal wonder, before it concludes on the back of surging, metallic guitars. Some of their music rages, from guttural to melodic, while at other times traditional folk instruments weave a spider’s web of intrigue, gently luring you into a honey-laced trap. It’s all led by singer Ellen Hirst, who can switch from the ethereal to the visceral at the drop of a bodhrán. She’s an intoxicating presence, and is set to propel this most folkloric of British bands to memorable impact at 2025’s Winter’s End.

Kit Trigg:

Kit Trigg

If you’re old enough to remember the early days of Reef, that sun-and-sea fuelled expression of youthful energy, then Kit Trigg’s cool, reinvented surf rock is gonna give you all those happy vibes again. Likewise, if you weren’t there first time, this thrilling trio capture the essence of what it really means to be alive, which is surely even better. There’s a liberating sense of freedom in the band’s earnest, freewheeling hard rock – full-blooded vocals from Kit himself, and thunderous rhythms and bass all taking this fabulous young band into British rock’s fast lane. The chest-beating ‘Goin’ For Glory’ and ‘Light At The End Of The Tunnel’ are massively exuberant introductions, while ‘Grow With The Flow’ displays remarkable soul. By the time Winter’s End comes round, this skate-ready outfit will be spinning and heelflipping their way into our collective heart.
