Whitesnake kicked off their farewell tour at Dublin’s 3Arena in fine style last night (Tuesday 10th May) with a rapturously received 14-song set.
Taking to the stage at 9.30pm after special guests Europe and co-headliners Foreigner, Whitesnake’s farewell show in the Irish capital was also the inaugural performance for David Coverdale’s two newest recruits – keyboardist, guitarist and backing vocalist Dino Jelusick, and Irish bassist Tanya O'Callaghan.
Opening with ‘Bad Boys’ / ‘Children of the Night’, Whitesnake’s set drew from six of their studio albums (‘Whitesnake’, ‘Slide It In’, ‘Flesh & Blood’, ‘Saints & Sinners’ ‘Ready An’ Willing’ and ‘Trouble’) alongside their live staple cover of ‘Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City.’
Together with towering anthems like ‘Fool for Your Loving’, ‘Is This Love’ and ‘Here I Go Again’, the performance culminated with the first live outing of ‘Take Me with You’ in 16 years.
Watch Whitesnake perform ‘Bad Boys’, ‘Crying in the Rain’ and ‘Is This Love’:
In a nod to the gig’s host country, the stage was bedecked in Irish flags, David Coverdale wore a Whitesnake shirt featuring with the green, white and orange flag, and Tanya O'Callaghan’s bass was emblazoned with the name of her home town, Mullingar.
Sharing a series of photos of Whitesnake’s performance on Twitter afterwards, David Coverdale wrote in his idiosyncratic style: “THANK YOU, DUBLIN!!! You Brought Tears To An Old Snakes Eyes…Blessings On You & Yours For An Unforgettable Evening In The Company Friends…The Irish Whitesnake Choir Was In Exceptional Form…XXX”
He added later: “Once Again Our Sincere Gratitude For Such An Emotional Beginning To The Farewell Tour…Please Know You Are Truly Appreciated & Love DUBLIN!! God Bless Your Beautiful Hearts!”
