White Stripes Vs The US Air Force

Band take on military after copycat music used on ad

The White Stripes are threatening the US Air Force with legal action following a new recruitment advert that appeared to "borrow” musical ideas from the band.

The new recruitment drive advert was first broadcast on Sunday at the Super Bowl and according to the White Stripes, the music is pretty similar to their song ‘Fell In Love With A Girl.’

A statement on the White Stripes website reads:

"We believe our song was re-recorded and used without permission of the White Stripes, our publishers, label or management.

"The White Stripes take strong insult and objection to the Air Force Reserves presenting this advert with the implication that we licensed one of our songs to encourage recruitment during a war that we do not support.

"The White Stripes support this nation's military, at home and during times when our country needs and depends on them.

"We simply don't want to be a cog in the wheel of the current conflict, and hope for a safe and speedy return home for our troops."

The advert has now been taken off the US Air Force website but you can watch both clips at the link below and make up your mind:
