Hitting select cinemas this autumn, That Little Ol’ Band From Texas charts ZZ Top’s legendary 50-year career and how “three oddball teenage bluesmen” became one of rock music’s most beloved bands.

The trailer features clips of ZZ Top superfans Joshua Homme and Billy Bob Thornton praising the band, together with snippets of interviews with Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard and Dusty Hill.

“They’re unique, they’re eccentric. When you would see them onstage, it was like seeing Bugs Bunny in person," Billy Bob Thornton says in the trailer.

Exploring the band’s highs and lows over the decades, at one Frank remembers a time in ZZ Top’s early career when he received a pay cheque for $72,000. “I spent it all on drugs,” he tells the camera. “Every last bit of it.”

Alongside the interviews, never-seen-before archive footage and plethora of ZZ Top songs, That Little Ol’ Band From Texas also includes a performance at the oldest dance hall in Texas, Gruene Hall, filmed exclusively for the documentary.

ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band From Texas premieres at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood on Tuesday 13th August.

Produced by the Emmy award-winning Banger Films, ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band From Texas tells the story of how three oddball teenage bluesmen - Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard – became one of the biggest, most beloved bands on the planet, all while maintaining a surrealist mystique that continues to intrigue fans and entice onlookers 50 years after the band’s inception. 

Buoyed by candid band interviews, never-before-seen archive, animation, celebrity fan testimonials (Billy Bob Thornton, Joshua Homme and more), and an intimate performance at the legendary Gruene Hall shot exclusively for this documentary, “That Little Ol’ Band” runs the gamut, from the absurd to the poignant, from squalid Texas bars to MTV heroics, all in celebration of this notoriously private, but larger than life, power trio.
