WATCH: Wolfgang Van Halen covers ‘Eruption’ to celebrate its 40th anniversary
Wolfgang Van Halen has performed a cover of the Van Halen instrumental ‘Eruption’ to mark its 40th birthday.
Sharing his version of dad Eddie’s seminal instrumental, the Van Halen bassist wrote: “In honour of Eruption being recorded 40 years ago today, here's me playing it on the guitar it was recorded on. #Eruption #EddieVanHalen”.

Rightfully considered one of the greatest guitar solos of all time, ‘Eruption’ segues into Van Halen’s cover of The Kinks’ ‘You Really Got Me’ on their self-titled 1978 debut album.
Wolfgang himself is currently working on his debut solo album, which is tentatively set for release in 2018. It’s reported that Wolfgang performs vocal and all instruments on the record including drums, bass, guitars and keyboards.
Heaping praise on his son’s cover of ‘Eruption’, Eddie Van Halen wrote on Twitter: “Kickin' ass Wolf-wait till they hear your record and really blow some minds!! Love you!! Pop.”

Speaking about his son’s solo project back in 2015, Eddie said it sounds like "AC/DC meets Van Halen meets aggressive pop. It's a little of everything and sounds like a freight train coming at you. I've never heard anything quite like it. It's so powerful that I'm jealous."
Wolfgang was announced as Michael Anthony’s successor in Van Halen in September 2006. He first performed live with the band 12 months later when he was just 16 years old.
Van Halen’s last show in the UK took place at Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield way back in June 1995 when they supported Bon Jovi.
