Now featuring Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and Crowded House frontman Neil Finn, the latest incarnation of the band performed for the first time since Lindsey Buckingham was acrimoniously ousted in April over a scheduling conflict.

Fleetwood Mac performed two songs on Ellen – 1982 ‘Mirage’ track ‘Gypsy’ and their ‘Rumours’ classic ‘The Chain’, which saw Finn and Stevie Nicks showcase their embryonic on-stage chemistry by sharing vocal duties.

The unveiling of the ‘new’ Fleetwood Mac precedes their sprawling 52-date North American tour, which kicks off in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Wednesday 3rd October.

Speaking of the proposed setlist at the dates, Stevie Nicks told Rolling Stone: “There are 10 hits we have to do. That leaves another 13 songs if you want to do a three-hour show. Then you crochet them all together and you make a great sequence and you have something that nobody has seen before except all the things they want to see are there.

“At rehearsal, we’re going to put up a board of 60 songs. Then we start with number one and we go through and we play everything. Slowly you start taking songs off and you start to see your set come together.”

Lindsey Buckingham will also kick off his solo tour next month.
