WATCH: Steve Harris on Planet Rockstock, new British Lion material & Iron Maiden
Moments after British Lion’s triumphant headline set at Planet Rockstock, the ever-genial Steve Harris caught up with Paul Anthony for a chat.
Rapturously received by the Planet Rockstock crowd, a sweat-soaked Steve enthused about the show: “I really enjoyed it, I loved it actually it was a lot of fun. A lot of people didn’t know our stuff but there were a lot of smiling faces, I loved it. It’s what it’s all about – being close to the people.
“I think there was people out there that didn’t know any of the songs but that’s alright, that’s cool, they seems to get into it – especially towards the end.”
Reflecting on how touring with British Lion is like going back to the early days of Iron Maiden, Steve said: “The bus is great apart from all the snoring. When the bus stops I can’t deal with that I must say but that’s the only downside really. I do like being on the bus, meets and greets with fans and stuff. It’s been a lot of fun.
“It’s just nice to see, people are so happy, have a photo with you and stuff like that – I can’t do that with Maiden really, there’s just too many (fans). We tend to go straight off at the back of the gig and fly off to the next place anyway.”
Steve also told Paul that British Lion’s live album is going to see the light of day in 2017: “It'll be out at some point next year. And then we'll do a second studio album as well. And so with Maiden and everything else, it's gonna be a pretty busy year for me. But, y’know I just love every minute of it really."
Confirming there are “eight songs” already written for the follow-up to 2012’s ‘British Lion’, Steve continued: “Then there's two or three (songs) that we've gotta sort of finish off bits on them, and then we're pretty well there. So, yeah, there's not too much to do."
