WATCH: Steve Hackett on ‘The Night Siren’ and his Genesis Revisited with Classic Hackett tour

Ahead of the Genesis Revisited with Classic Hackett tour kicking off next month, Planet Rock’s Darren Redick caught up with Steve Hackett at his rehearsal space in south-west London.

The progressive rock icon unleashes his 25th studio album ‘The Night Siren’ today (24th March) and Steve told Darren that it’s a work he’s “terribly proud of” and ambitious in scope.

Uniting guest musicians from almost every corner of the globe, Steve said: “You could say on one level it’s a world music album, in the broadest sense of the word, and on another level there is kind of a message of peace and unity and cooperation which flies in the face of the right-wing politics that seems to be taking over the world at the moment.

“The message is peace. There are two tracks that specifically address that – the first track ‘Behind The Smoke’ is about refugees and the penultimate track is called West to East and that’s really about a kind of resolution. That’s very much peace and love whereas the first track is much more angry and dangerous.”

Divulging more about what to expect from his tour, Steve said: “It’s two sets. We do three things from the new album with other solo favourites that fans have asked for, stuff like ‘The Steppes’ from ‘Defector’ and several others.

“Then we take a break, we have a 20-minute intermission and then we come back with the Genesis revisited side of things. It’s two bands in one or two events in the course of one evening.

“We’re going to specialise in celebrating 40 years of ‘Wind & Wuthering’.. most of the tunes from that I’ll be doing. I’ll be doing the good stuff from that album and other selections from other Genesis albums, I think at least one from each of the albums."

You can watch Darren’s interview with Steve below where he also reveals what surprises there will be on the tour and how his family history is firmly entrenched with the subject matter of ‘The Night Siren’.
