The first major hurricane to hit US mainland in 12 years has displaced more than 30,000 people, flooded hundreds of thousands of homes, caused an estimated $70billion in damage and has resulted in at least 66 deaths.

Doing their bit to help last night (5th September), Green Day personally donated $100k to Americares’ relief effort and then at 9pm UK time played a 10-song set on Facebook Live and urged fans to make a donation if they can.

Billie Joe said on Facebook Live: “Hey guys, how you doing? We’re Green Day, we’re coming to you from Tampa, Florida right now and this is going to be a mini set that we’re going to play for everybody to be able to donate to Americares that will go directly to Harvey relief for the people that have been displaced and the tragedy that’s happened out there.

“We’re going to play some old songs and it’s going to sound very garage-y in here so we’re coming at you as a three-piece – Mike Dirnt, Tre Cool, Billie Joe – and this song’s called ‘Paper Lanterns’.”

The trio proceeded to play a set that consisted of four ‘Dookie’ classics (‘Burnout’, ‘Coming Clean’, ‘She’ and ‘When I Come Around’), three tracks from 1991’s ‘Kerplunk’ (‘2000 Light Years Away’, ‘Christie Road’, ‘One of My Lies’), ‘Only of You’ from their 1989 debut EP ‘1,000 Hours’, ‘Paper Lanterns’ from 1990’s ‘Slappy EP’ and 1995’s ‘J.A.R. (Jason Andrew Relva)’.

Online for one week, you can watch Green Day’s entire performance below. Skip to the 25-minute mark for the start of the set.
