The rock giants were midway through their headline set at Secret Solstice Festival in Laugardalur Park, Reykjavik when drummer Taylor Hawkins announced they are set to be joined by a very special guest.

With Dave feigning that he didn’t know about the guest spot, Taylor said: “Her name is Harper and she wants to come up here and play – her name is Harper Grohl actually which is crazy as she has the same last name as you. Harper can you come up here and play a little rock gig for us please?”

Dave added: “Hold on a second, Harper what you doing?! About two weeks ago my daughter said ‘Daddy I want to play the drums’. And I said ‘Okay you want me to teach you?’ and she said ‘yes.’

“And then I said ‘Do you want to get up in front of 20,000 people in Iceland and play?’ And she said ‘yes’. So ladies and gentlemen, welcome the next generation – there’s another Grohl on the drum set now and this is the first song she learned.”

With Harper taking Taylor’s seat, the band then played a cover of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ with Dave offering his daughter reassurance by facing her for the entire performance:

Elsewhere, the set featured the live debut of ‘Run’ and a song called ‘Lah Di Da’ plus the first outing of ‘The Sky In a Neighbourhood’ with a full band – Dave and Taylor previously performed an acoustic version of the track at James Hetfield and Sammy Hagar’s Acoustic-4-A-Cure charity concert in San Francisco last month.

You can see fan-filmed footage of all three live debuts below.
