WATCH: Ann Wilson & Jerry Cantrell perform 'Black Hole Sun' in tribute to Chris Cornell
Heart’s Ann Wilson and Alice In Chains’ Jerry Cantrell performed a poignant tribute to Chris Cornell at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
The rockers appeared on stage mid-way through the event at Cleveland’s Public Auditorium on Saturday night (14th April) where they played a stripped-back version of Soundgarden’s towering 1994 anthem 'Black Hole Sun’.
The performance came after a montage saluting rockers who have passed away over the past year including AC/DC’s Malcolm Young, Tom Petty and Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington.
Tom Petty was honoured earlier in the night when Las Vegas indie-rockers The Killers opened proceedings with a version of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' ‘American Girl’.
Ann Wilson, who inducted The Moody Blues into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, previously performed ‘Black Hole Sun’ in Chris Cornell’s memory on Jimmy Kimmel Live! following the singer’s death in May last year.
Ann’s new solo album ‘Immortal’ – previously entitled ‘Project Dead Guys’ – features covers of artists who have passed away recently. Covers include Amy Winehouse's ‘Back To Black’, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ ‘Luna’ and The Eagles’ ‘Life In The Fast Lane’ in honour of Glenn Frey.
Dire Straits, Bon Jovi, The Cars, The Moody Blues and Nina Simone were all inducted at the 33rd Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
