WATCH: Alice Cooper rubbishes retirement & vows to carry on longer than Mick Jagger

Currently gearing up for the release of his eagerly awaited 27th studio album ‘Paranormal’ on Friday 28th July, and with a 50th anniversary show already booked in at Wembley Arena in a few years' time, Alice had a dig at people who keep asking him when he’s going to retire.

“They say ‘why don’t you just retire and play golf?’ I do that anyway! I play golf every morning so what would I retire to? Gardening? Come on!,” Alice proclaimed.

“I’ve never been in better shape physically, never been in better shape mentally. Why would you quit? I mean you’ve got a big audience out there, you got a big tour, you got a hundred and thirty shows, you got a great band, y’know, a new album. I can’t think of any reason why I’d want to retire.”

He continued: “I always said that when Mick Jagger retires, I’ve still got four years because I want to go as long as he did.

“He’s four years older than me but then I just saw a thing on TV where he’s doing Pilates and he’s doing like all these exercises and warming up his voice. And I’m thinking, ‘Jeez this guy’s going to keep going until he’s 80 that means I’ve got to go another 14 years!’”

The follow-up to 2011's 'Welcome 2 My Nightmare', ‘Paranormal’ sees Alice reunite with original Alice Cooper band guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway and drummer Neal Smith and it features very special guest spots from Deep Purple's Roger Glover, U2's Larry Mullen Jr. and ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons.

Alice explained to Wyatt that the collaborations came about for all the right reasons: “Bob Ezrin did Deep Purple’s last album and he goes ‘hey, we gotta get Roger on Paranoiac Personality y’know cos you’ve got that great big opening bass thing.’ And I said ‘Absolutely. If he’s there get him’.

“To me that’s the way you do it. You look for a song that calls for that person and you don’t try and fit him in some other song that doesn’t work for him. Perfect for him, perfect for Billy (Gibbons) and Larry… change(d) the whole thing up. That really worked.”

As well as performing on the album tracks ‘Genuine American Girl’ and ‘You And All Of Your Friends’, Alice’s original band members will exclusively be joining Alice on the UK leg of his tour this November.

Revealing why he drafted them in for the UK shows, Alice told Wyatt: “The touring band does the whole show, they cut my head off, the curtain goes down and when the curtain comes up it’s the original band.

“And so I’m doing five songs with the original Dennis, Neal, Mike and myself and it’s a whole different (experience). For England it’s great because England were the first ones that supported the original band.

“They were the ones that really gave us our start and everything like that. I figured it’s the best place to do it, the older Alice Cooper fans will go ‘wow, this is great.’ And they play great, the original band still plays really good.”
