WATCH: Alice Cooper performs ‘Ballad of Dwight Fry’ and ‘Killer’ medley with Foo Fighters
Planet Rock’s very own Alice Cooper joined forces with Foo Fighters for a very special performance on Halloween.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live where he also chewed the fat with guest host Dave Grohl (who was dressed as David Letterman), Alice performed a medley of his early seventies classics ‘Ballad of Dwight Fry’ and ‘Killer’ while flanked by all six members of Foo Fighters.
Wearing a trademark straightjacket throughout the performance, as per his live concert it ended with Alice being decapitated by a guillotine. In a twist, when the executioners remove his head from the block, Dave Grohl’s head was revealed.
Watch the performance in its gloriously macabre entirety here:
During his interview, shock-rock torchbearer Alice Cooper explained why rock music and horror can go hand-in-hand.
“Rock n’ roll, horror, comedy, they’re all in bed together,” Alice said. “As long as the songs are great you can be anything you want to be.
“You know that being a song writer, if the song is great then you can put it on stage and you can decorate it any way you want to decorate it but the song comes first. The cake comes before the icing; we just use that much (stretches his arms) icing.”
Elsewhere, Alice also regaled stories about his paranormal experiences including staying at his manager Shep Gordon’s haunted house in Copiague, New York with Joe Perry.
As reported yesterday, Dave Grohl also performed a medley of Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ and ‘Do You Want To Build a Snowman?’ from animated movie Frozen with actor Kristen Bell during his guest stint on Jimmy Kimmel.
“Me being here with you is kind of the biggest deal to my kids,” Dave said. “If I were to jam a song with you I would become the coolest dad in the world.”
Don’t forget, Alice Cooper plays a total of five headline UK arena dates this month supported by The Mission and The Tubes. Alongside the full Alice Cooper performance, the shows will also feature a mini-set with his original band members Dennis Dunaway, Neal Smith and Michael Bruce.
Tickets to all dates are available from Planet Rock Tickets now.
