Set to hit UK cinemas on 16th August, the Gurinder Chadha directed musical comedy-drama Blinded By The Light is inspired by the life of journalist Sarfraz Manzoor and his obsession with Bruce Springsteen.

Taking its name from the 1973 Springsteen song of the same name and based on Manzoor’s biography ‘Greetings From Bury Park’, a plot synopsis for Blinded By The Light reads:

“_Set in 1987, during the austere days of Thatcher’s Britain, Blinded By The Light is a joyous, coming-of-age story about a teenager who learns to live life, understand his family and find his own voice through the words and music of Bruce Springsteen.”_

Here is the trailer:

Originally recorded for the 2001 film Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone but rejected by producers, ‘I’ll Stand by You’ is described as a contemporary ballad and has been unreleased in its studio form until now.

Springsteen said of the track in 2017: “It was something that I thought would have fit lovely (in the movies). At some point I’d like to get it into a children’s movie of some sort. It was a pretty lovely song.”

Bruce Springsteen classics that also feature on the Blinded by the Light soundtrack include ‘Born To Run’, ‘Badlands’, ‘Dancing In The Dark’ and the title track ‘Blinded by the Light’.

Live tracks include the first ever performance of ‘The River’ at Madison Square Garden in 1979 and ‘The Promised Land’ recorded in Washington DC in 2014. Both have previously been unavailable on an album.

The Blinded by the Light soundtrack is available to pre-order now ahead of its release on Friday 9th August.
