U2 Top Of The Cash Mountain In 2009

Band earn twice as much as nearest rival

U2 earned nearly twice as much money in 2009 as their nearest rival, it has been claimed.

Billboard reports that the Irish rockers earned a massive $108,601,283 through album sales, merchandising and tickets in the past 12 months – while the nearest musician to them (Bruce Springsteen) earned a paltry $57,619,037.

U2 raked in the cash in a bumper year that saw them release a brand new album (No Line On The Horizon) and embark on one of their biggest tours for a while.

Bruce Springsteen pulled in the punters and also released a big selling new album, but his arena shows were no match for U2’s multiple sold out stadium shows around the world.

AC/DC ($43,650,466) and Metallica ($25,564,234) also made the top Ten earners in 2009.
