U2, Slash Pay Tribute To Clarence

U2 paid tribute to Clarence during their show at Anaheim's Angel Stadium at the weekend. During their encore, before the band played 'Moment Of Surrender', Bono said "I want you to think about Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. I want you to think of Clarence Clemons. This man has carried music, and music carried him until this day."

Slash, meanwhile, was amongst the many celebrities that took to Twitter to express their condolences,  tweeting that Clemons "was one of the finest musicians/people in this business"

Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello wrote, "Thank you so much Big Man for sweetening the sound of our planet with your sax and your soul."

Outside of the music industry tributes poured in from the likes of documentarian Michael Moore, who said "RIP Clarence Clemons. So many yrs of bringing joy 2 so many of us. In 94 I spent a day cruising round NJ w/ him. Unforgettable."

Actor Rob Lowe said "Clarence Clemons was an electric, generous, sweet spirit. Taught me how to look cool with a sax. Goodbye Big Man"

Bruce Springsteen's touching tribute was posted on his official website on Saturday. He said:

"Clarence lived a wonderful life. He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage. His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly forty years. He was my great friend, my partner, and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band."
