U2 Confirmed For Glastonbury
The most inevitable festival announcement of the year is made at NME Awards
After being forced to cancel last year's headline set at the country's biggest music festival, U2 were last night confirmed as headliners of this year's Glastonbury Festival.
The announcement came via The Edge at last night's NME Award ceremony in London just after Michael Eavis had collected the Best Festival Award.
"Congratulations to Michael and Emily Eavis and the rest of the team for the continued success of Glastonbury," he said. "It's more a way of life than a festival."
"I have to say there is something really special and iconic about that stage," he continued. "So, we're all looking forward to coming back to pick up where I left off. U2 will be playing June 24. And we're so excited to get to play in front of the world's greatest festival audience. We'll see you there!"
U2 were forced to cancel their appearance at the festival in 2010Â after Bono hurt his back, but The Edge turned up to play 'Where The Streets Have No Name' with fellow headliners Muse.
Their appearance at this year's Glastonbury will mark the first time that U2 have ever played at a music festival.
