Trevor Rabin has announced that he will release a new solo album, ‘Rio’, on 6 October.

His last solo album, 2012's ‘Jacaranda’, was a wholly instrumental affair. This means ‘Rio’ will be Rabin’s first solo album to feature his vocal performance since 1989's ‘Can't Look Away’ – released while he was also a member of YES.

While Rabin has carved out a career as a prolific film score composer and producer, he is perhaps still best-known for his tenure in the British prog rock band.

He was a pivotal part of Yes between 1983 and 1994 and 1995 and appeared on the albums ‘90125’, ‘Big Generator’, ‘Union’ and ‘Talk’.

He was also the main writer and co-lead vocalist on the band's biggest hit 'Owner of a Lonely Heart'.

His film score credits include ‘Con Air’, ‘Armageddon’, ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’, ‘Rock Star’ and many more.

He also formed Yes Featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, Rick Wakeman - also known as Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman (ARW) – who toured but never released a planned original album.

The new solo album ‘Rio’ will be released on InsideOut Music.

Label head Tom Waber said: "Working with Trevor is a big bucket list moment for me and the label. I became a fan of his signature writing style at the beginning of the 80s and have been following him ever since. He is one of the true greats in Rock Music. ‘Rio’ is everything we could have hoped for and more!"

Rabin said of the album: “Over the past ten years I was having ideas, concepts that I couldn’t implement due to my busy schedule. To be honest, those years flew by in a flurry. I knew that this was the time, and once I found my momentum I worked on the album 24/7.”

‘Rio’ is named after Rabin's granddaughter and the cover art features a painting by the musician himself.

It will be available to pre-order from 4 August in several different formats.
