Townshend Talks Superbowl Success

The Who guitarist appreciates audience reaction

The Who’s Pete Townshend has revealed that he was impressed by both the crowd and the spectacle of the Super Bowl on Sunday.

The guitarist revealed that although the crowd was makedly subdued for the band’s performance, he acknowledges that they were there for the music.

"You know, you could kind of tell from the stage the crowd is really here for the game - it was nice for that reason."

He went on: "It was nice to feel a part of something and not having it all to be about us."

The Who’s 12 minute performance included a medley of hits including ‘Who Are You’ and ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’, with a stage set that featured lasers and fireworks. It was watched by a world record TV audience of 106.5million people (beating the previous record of 105.4m set by the finale of TV series MAS*H in 1983).
