Daltrey reveals Townshend\'s ear problems have not been cured
Roger Daltrey has revealed that The Who may have taken their final bow.
As previously reported, Pete Townshend had been suffering with a severe case of tinnitus that was threatening the band’s future. He had already announced that their show at the Royal Albert Hall may be their last if the condition didn’t improve, and now Roger Daltrey has revealed that Townshend is still struggling with his ears.
Daltrey tells Uncut magazine, "If carrying on is going to mean Pete going deaf, let's stop now. Entering old age in a silent world - nothing is worth that."
"That (last month's concert) might have been the last gig. I honestly don't know. We're trying to deal with issues that we have never dealt with before. Our bodies are beginning to give up on us. I've had voice problems in the past year that I've managed to sort out and I'm really enjoying singing again but you have to be realistic - I am 66 years old."
Townshend’s condition became a problem when he was working on a brand new Who album entitled Floss. The album was only in the early stages, and so it’s thought that this new rock opera may now never see the light of day.
