Keith Richards has revealed to Rolling Stone Magazine that the band would not be playing any 50th anniversary shows in 2012 but they were instead focused on trying to do something in 2013.

"Basically, we're just not ready," says Richards. Instead, 2013 is the new goal. "I have a feeling that's more realistic," he adds.

"I saw Mick on Saturday," Richards went on. "He's going to be living in New York too for a while, so we're planning to get things going with the Stones again."

Richards also revealed that he's looking to get the band back into the studio. "We'll just get the boys back together again then and maybe cut a side. I've got plenty in the locker here, but it's not on tape."

Meanwhile, one of the other projects on the horizon in 2012 is a brand new feature documentary that will be released in the autumn.

The untitled movie will be directed by Brett Morgen, an Academy Award nominee who is known for esteemed work on The Kid Stays in the Picture among many other projects.

"For anyone who wants to experience the band, this is the film that will defy convention and create a sonic tapestry to transport viewers into the world of the Rolling Stones,” says Morgen. "The film will deliver the original, bold, sexy and dangerous flavor of the iconic rock band.”

This will be the only film to have traced the story of the Stones from 1963 to the present day.
