In completely unsurprising news, Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts’ upcoming North American stadium tour has been pushed back until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Stadium Tour was due to open at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida in just a couple of weeks’ time on Thursday 18th June and wrap up three months later on Saturday 5th September at Los Angeles SoFi Stadium.
Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts’ al issued a joint statement today (1st June) confirming that The Stadium Tour won’t be happening this year and they’re working on new dates for 2021.
The statement reads: "We wanted to continue to communicate with our fans and update you with valid information as it becomes available.
“The official decision has been made to move all 2020 North American Stadium Tour dates into the summer of 2021. The new stadium dates are being rescheduled, your tickets will be honoured for all postponed shows and refund policy information will be made available shortly. Stay tuned, be safe and we will see you next year."
According to a Billboard news story published in January a month after tickets went on sale, The Stadium Tour had already grossed $130 million from standard ticket sales and a further $5 million in VIP packages.
Mötley Crüe announced their reformation in November 2019 when they released a statement and video confirming they had destroyed their Cessation of Touring Agreement and they will be hitting the road once again.
Explaining why they have reunited, the band wrote: “Following the huge success of their Netflix biopic The Dirt, Mötley Crüe has seen a massive surge in new audience.
“And the band best known for breaking the rules has destroyed their cessation of touring contract in true Mötley Crüe-fashion, by literally blowing it up.”
A week later, they announced The Stadium Tour at a joint press conference in Hollywood, California with Def Leppard and Poison. Joan Jett wasn’t in attendance.
Mötley Crüe previously ‘called it a day’ on 31st December 2015 with a farewell show at The Staples Centre in their native Los Angeles.
