The Rolling Stones to play historic free gig in Cuba
The Rolling Stones are confirmed to play a momentous free gig in Havana, Cuba later this month.
Taking place at the Ciudad Deportiva de la Habana on 25th March, the show will be the first open air concert by a British rock band in the country.
It will serve as the fitting climax of The Stones’ América Latina Olé Tour 2016, which has already seen the rock legends wow Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil with shows in Peru, Colombia and Mexico coming up.
In the works for several months, the announcement comes just days after Barack Obama confirmed he will become only the second serving US president to visit Havana.
The Rolling Stones said: “We have performed in many special places during our long career but this show in Havana is going to be a landmark event for us, and, we hope, for all our friends in Cuba too.”
Dubbed The Concert for Amity, the show will be filmed by award winning production company JA Digital and directed by the Grammy nominated Paul Dugdale who has previously worked with Coldplay and The Prodigy.
The gig takes place 15 years after Manic Street Preachers played a landmark gig at Havana's Karl Marx Theatre, which was attended by Fidel Castro.
