The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards selling contents of his New York home for charity
Keith Richards and his wife Patti Hansen are selling possessions from their New York home to raise money for a charity close to their hearts.
‘The Collection of Keith and Patti Richards’ auction takes place at the Stair Galleries in New York on Saturday 24th June and features a smorgasbord of antiques from the couple’s ‘Boho chic’ Upper East Side Manhattan apartment.
All proceeds from the auction will go directly to the charity Sphere of CT, which enriches and enhances the lives of adults with disabilities through education, recreation and the arts. Patti’s 24-year-old nephew has autism and benefits from such organisations.
Items going under the hammer include the couple’s Edwardian painted satinwood four poster bed, Keith’s favourite piece, the English tufted leather Chesterfield sofa, an Italian rococo giltwood console and three large floral paintings by the French artist Jacqueline Marval that Patti found in a gallery in London.
Elsewhere there’s an unusual pair of Italian classically painted side cabinets, an elaborate Persian Tabriz carpet, English silver-plated flatware service by Walker and Hall of Sheffield, an Italian Orange Glass Decanter by Paolo Venini, a set of 8 Waterford crystal wine glasses and two Flemish tapestry pillows.
According to the Stair Galleries prospectus, Patti Hansen conceived their apartment as ‘a European jewel box, filled with Italian, French and English furniture, decorations, and paintings.’
It adds: “Patti worked with designer Carol Perry of Perry Associates in Connecticut to achieve the richly romantic apartment of her dreams. Patti was inspired by an elaborate pair of Italian rococo-style giltwood headboards upholstered in a deep cobalt blue silk velvet fit for a grand Roman Palazzo.
“She and her designer started with the deep wall colors and spent months combing antique shops on the East Coast and in London, finding the right piece for each room.”

In other Keith Richards news, The Rolling Stones are hitting European stadiums this autumn on the No Filter Tour, which kicks off at Hamburg Stadtpark on 9th September.
Although there are no UK shows confirmed for 2017, the band say they’re hoping to play some huge homecoming shows in 2018.
They said in a short statement: “Sorry to our UK fans there are no UK dates on this run due to lack of available venues because of sporting fixtures. Hope to be here in 2018.”
