The Rolling Stones confirm 23rd studio album is 'in the can'
Following a blitzkrieg of studio activity at Christmas, Keith Richards says their eagerly awaited new album is imminent.
Keith Richards has confirmed that The Rolling Stones’ 23rd studio album is “in the can.”
Speaking on the red carpet at the launch of The Rolling Stones retrospective Exhibitionism at The Saatchi Gallery in London last night, Keith confirmed they recorded the material in a blitzkrieg of activity.
“That’s in the can – although it might be a surprise to people, and I can’t say any more than that right now,” the 72-year-old guitar legend said.
“We did sessions in London in December, which suddenly gave us a whole load of stuff. The Stones have never cut so many tracks in such a short time.
“That’s not necessarily a guarantee of a good record – but there’s something in the works, and I’d just like to leave it up there in mystery land.”
Divulging more about these highly productive studio sessions, Ronnie Wood said: “We went in to cut some new songs, which we did – but we got on a blues streak. We cut 11 blues tracks in two days.
“They are extremely great cover versions of Howlin' Wolf and Little Walter, among other blues people. When we heard them back after not hearing them for a couple of months, we were like, ‘Who’s that? It's you!’ It sounded so authentic."
When asked when the material will see the light of day, Ronnie responded: "This year."
The Rolling Stones recorded two new songs – ‘Doom and Gloom’ and ‘One More Shot’ - for the 2012 greatest hits album ‘GRRR!’, however, it’s been 11 long years since the release of their last full-length record ‘A Bigger Bang’.
