The Rolling Stones announce 23rd studio album ‘Blue & Lonesome’

After teasing the announcement all week, The Rolling Stones have finally unveiled full details of their blues album.

Published 6th Oct 2016

Titled ‘Blue & Lonesome’, the 12-track album was recorded over just three days at British Grove Studios in West London with The Glimmer Twins (aka Keith and Mick) co-producing alongside their long-time collaborator Don Was (Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop).

The band’s first long-player since 2005’s ‘A Bigger Bang’ will be released via Polydor Records on Friday 2nd December and it’s available to pre-order from rollingstones.com now.

Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie were joined in the studio by touring band members Darryl Jones (bass), Chuck Leavell (keyboards) and Matt Clifford (keyboards). Jim Keltner guests on percussion on ‘Hoo Doo Blues’.

Their good friend and fellow blues aficionado Eric Clapton performs on two tracks - ‘Everybody Knows About My Good Thing’ and ‘I Can’t Quit You Baby’. He was conveniently recording his new album next door while The Stones were in the studio.

Artists covered on the record include Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon, Eddie Taylor, Little Walter and Howlin’ Wolf.

Co-producer Don Was says: “This album is manifest testament to the purity of their love for making music, and the blues is, for the Stones, the fountainhead of everything they do.”

‘Blue & Lonesome’ will be released in the following formats:
