The Doors announce 50th anniversary deluxe edition of their seminal debut album
To celebrate the half-century landmark of their eponymous debut album today (4th January), The Doors have unveiled details of a 50th anniversary deluxe edition.
The extensive 3CD/LP collection boasts remastered Stereo and Mono Mixes of the seminal album together with an eight-track live performance from The Matrix in San Francisco recorded just weeks after ‘The Doors’ was released.
Originally released in an inferior sound quality in 2008, the Matrix recordings on this deluxe edition are from the recently unearthed master tapes.
Set to hit the shelves on 31st March via Rhino Records, the album is packaged in a 12 x 12 hardback cover, has extensive liner notes by esteemed music journalist David Fricke and contains a collection of rare and unseen photographs.
The announcement coincides with the news that today will officially be declared the ‘Day of The Doors’ in their native Los Angeles.
A special public ceremony to honour the band will be held by councilmember Mike Bonin in the Venice Beach area where they lived and worked.
Surviving band members Robby Kreiger and John Densmore will both attend the event at the location of the iconic ‘Venice’ sign, while family members of the late Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison will also be present.
