The Darkness score highest charting album in 22 years with 'Dreams on Toast'
Only Mumford & Sons held them off the top spot

Lowestoft’s prodigal sons The Darkness have score their highest charting album in 22 years with their latest magnum opus ‘Dreams on Toast.’
Featuring their poignant ode to farting during lovemaking, ‘Hot on My Tail,’ plus other singles ‘I Hate Myself’ and ‘Rock and Roll Party Cowboy,’ ‘Dreams on Toast’ charted at Number 2 last Friday (4th April) behind Mumford & Sons’ ‘Rushmere.’
'Dreams on Toast' is The Darkness’ highest chart entry since they hit Number 1 for three weeks in 2003 with their blockbuster debut album ‘Permission to Land.’
Justin Hawkins, Dan Hawkins, Frankie Poullain and Rufus Tiger Taylor also topped the Official Vinyl Albums Chart and Official Record Store Chart, scoring the best-selling album of the week on vinyl.
Thanking their fans, The Darkness said: “This is a huge achievement, and it simply wouldn’t have happened without the love, loyalty and downright heroic support of you lot. So many of you went above and beyond — buying multiple formats, spreading the word, and generally being absolute legends.
“It might not be the top spot we were aiming for, but we’re incredibly proud of this album and of everything it represents. Thank you for keeping the flame of rock and roll burning bright. We are The Darkness. And so are you.”
In other The Darkness news, the band have just premiered the video for ‘Rock and Roll Party Cowboy,’ which was co-directed by drummer Rufus Tiger Taylor and Darri3D.
Taylor says of the video: "Only three things embody what it is to be a rock n roll party cowboy these days. My dog, Don Vito. The international live music band group, The Darkness. And the fans around the world who support us so fiercely. This one’s for you."
