Are The Black Crowes teasing a reunion tour?
Four years on from their acrimonious split, The Black Crowes appear to be teasing a comeback of some sort.
Last week, the band took to their social media channels to post their humorous cartoon logo of two intoxicated-looking crows.
As the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on Monday (4th November), the same Black Crowes logo has since appeared on digital billboards in Milwaukee, and fans have also spotted it at the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel in New Jersey.
The clandestine PR campaign fuels ongoing speculation that The Black Crowes are reforming for a reunion tour in 2020.
Speaking to The Wall Street Journal in October, ex-Black Crowes manager Pete Angelus said he was "aware of the deal that the brothers (Chris and Rich Robinson) made with Live Nation for a 2020 tour."
Drummer Steve Gorman also told New York radio station WBAB that he’s aware of Chris and Rich Robinson’s plans for a reunion tour.
"I know that they are (reforming)," Gorman said. "Well, let me clarify that. I've been told by people involved that it's happening.
“Now, has either one of them told me that? No. I haven't spoken to either one of them. So, I have it on very reputable authority. But then again, until they're on stage, who knows what? But everything I've been told is that it's happening."
The Black Crowes have remained inactive since December 2013 and officially confirmed their split in 2015.
In a 2018 interview with Rolling Stone, Rich Robinson compared his ongoing feud with older brother Chris to the infamous bitter fallout between The Kinks’ Ray and Dave Davies.
"I kind of feel like it's in the Kinks realm where it's just done," Rich said. "I'm really happy not to play with him.
“I don't think it's healthy for anyone to be around that (bad atmosphere). If he's truly happy playing CRB (Chris Robinson Brotherhood) songs and that it's silly to play Black Crowes songs until he's ready to do it, then it's great. So be it."
Alongside his titular Chris Robinson Brotherhood band, Chris Robinson formed As The Crow Flies last year to perform predominately Black Crowes songs.
Rich Robinson, meanwhile, released his second album with The Magpie Salute – ‘High Water II’ – last month via Provogue.
The Magpie Salute also features his former Black Crowes band mates Marc Ford (guitars) and Sven Pipien (bass). They headlined Planet Rockstock last December.
