Tenacious D Twitter hack tells fans Jack Black is dead

The tasteless hack was instigated as the band returned from a festival where over 70 were seriously injured.

Unfortunately the way 2016 seems to be heading, when the official Tenacious D account tweeted the news that Jack Black had passed away, many feared the worst. Thankfully, however, it was soon revealed to be just a cruel hoax and the rocker/actor was indeed alive and well.

The confusion began when the official Twitter account posted 'I'm sad to officially announce the death of Jack Black at the age of 46, rest in peace brother.'

They then followed with two more tweets but fans became suspicious when nothing was then posted on the official Facebook page.

The last post on the official page showed Black and fellow Tenacious D member Kyle Gass at the Rock am Ring in Germany.

Despite many believing the news might be true and that we'd lost another rocker, a couple of hours later it was revealed the account had been taken over by hacker Ruthless. The tweet revealing the poor taste prank said 'The legend is still alive, it is ok guys.'

The hacker then even had the cheek to ask for a follow, before then explaining how access could be retrieved.

Given that the band are currently returning from the Rock am Ring festival where over 70 people had to be hospitalised following lightning strikes and torrential thunder storms, the joke really isn't funny.
