Syd Barrett Fund Benefit Show Next Week

Fundraising benefit concert takes place in London next Tuesday

A benefit concert will take place in London next week to raise money for the Syd Barrett Fund.

INTERSTELLAR FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE SYD BARRETT FUND takes place at 93 Feet East in Shoreditch on Tuesday 13 July and will feature performances from Skinbat Scramble, All Schools Are Strange and Department S, plus DJ sets from Spencer Kelly.

Organiser Simon Webb says of the three bands playing on the night "All three bands have existed in one form or another since the late seventies or early eighties, with differing success levels along the way. All three now have the enjoyment of simply playing in front of an audience as their main goal in music, something which is very important for an event in the spirit of Syd Barrett, since it was the fun Syd got from music which was most important to him, rather than any success, fame or aclaim.”

Tickets are £5, and can be bought here http://www.wegottickets.com/event/84316 or on the door.

The Syd Barrett Fund was set up in 2008 by Rosemary Breen, sister of Syd Barrett after being struck by the love and affection shown to her brother after his death in 2006.

Escape Artists is the charity which benefits from the fundraising activity of the Syd Barrett Fund, and the most recent event saw a group of Syd Barrett fans and those who carry out the work of Escape Artists walk from London to Cambridge, something which Syd himself did at the beginning of the 1980s.

Escape Artists have already staged one large-scale celebration of Syd Barrett, The City Wakes in Cambridge in October 2008.

Money raised from next week’s show goes towards the work done by Escape Artists, who use the arts to improve the wellbeing, confidence, skills and employability of disadvantaged groups.
