Sweet premiere 'Set Me Free' video on Planet Rock
A new version of the classic 1974 track
Sweet have premiered the video to their single ‘Set Me Free’ exclusively on Planet Rock.
Penned by Sweet guitarist Andy Scott – the only surviving member of the classic Sweet line-up - ‘Set Me Free’ originally appeared as the opening track on Sweet’s second studio album, 1974’s ‘Sweet Fanny Adams.’
The new version of ‘Set Me Free’ has been reimagined by the current incarnation of the Sweet and it appears on their latest album ‘Isolation Boulevard’, which was recorded in September and October 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic.
Although a firm fan favourite and previously covered by the likes of Saxon, Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil and Steve Stevens, ‘Set Me Free’ has never been released as a single until now. Ahead of its release tomorrow (5th March), you can check out the video first below.

‘Isolation Boulevard’ also features new versions of classic Sweet tracks including ‘Fox on the Run’, ‘Blockbuster’, ‘Ballroom Blitz’ and ‘Teenage Rampage.’
Andy Scott says of ‘Isolation Boulevard’: “Recording an album separately in different locations throws up a myriad of technical problems.
“It’s impossible for everyone to play at the same time, so all parts are performed the ‘old’ way and then data transferred back to base camp where the magical digital stuff takes over.”
He adds: “Sweet would usually record all together in the studio with a performance rather than individually but the pandemic dictated the ways and means. The result is a mind-blowing set of tracks, all the hits and a barrage of heavy-duty glam rock.”
Sweet last toured the UK in 2019 and they headlined Planet Rock presents Winter’s End in March 2020 a few weeks before lockdown and were one of the standout acts of the entire weekend.
In June 2020, Sweet bassist and founding member Steve Priest died aged 72 following a long illness.
