Suzi Quatro criticises Rock and Roll Hall of Fame over her 'stupid' snub
'It doesn't make any sense to me'
Suzi Quatro has criticised the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame saying it’s a “no brainer” that she should have been inducted into the Cleveland music institution.
Fresh from releasing her new album ‘The Devil In Me’, music icon Suzi Quatro appears on My Planet Rocks on Planet Rock this coming Sunday night (4th April) and Wyatt asked her about whether she believes she should have been inducted into the Rock Hall.
“Yeah, everybody says (I should be inducted),” Quatro said. “I’m actually getting bored of it now because to me it’s a no brainer – and that’s what everybody says – and it’s just kind of stupid of an organisation that prides themselves on doing things correctly to not honour me, who was the first.
“It doesn’t make any sense to me. I know a lot of people want me to have it, people like Alice (Cooper). Every time I do something in America ‘why aren’t you in there?’ ‘I don’t know.’ I’ve got awards coming out of my backside… I’m actually probably in better company not being in it.”
Rock bands including Motörhead, Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden are yet to be inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame despite their significant contributions to the genre.
Elsewhere in the chat with Wyatt, Quatro spoke about being one of the first women to front and play with a rock music act.
Reflecting upon her authenticity as an artist, Quatro said: “I think the whole reason that it fell on my shoulders to be the first ‘girl’ it has to be said – even though I don’t do gender – playing in a rock and roll band and leading the band with a bass guitar, I think that had to fall on somebody like me who didn’t even know she was doing it. It would not have worked. It would have been manufactured.
“The fact that I’m still wearing the same suit, playing the same instruments and still doing the same music shows you that whatever I am is organic and real. And that’s the only way it could have worked!”
