Unlike Metallica’s recent appearance on the Apple TV version of the show which was teased for months and months, Foo Fighters’ spot has been a closely guarded secret.

Announcing the appearance with a gif showing Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Pat Smear, Rami Jaffee, Chris Shiflett and Nate Mendel packed into a car with James Corden, The Late Late Show tweeted: “Surprise! @foofighters #CarpoolKaraoke coming your way this week!”

Foo Fighters later shared the gif along with the caption: “Are you ready?”

The sextet’s slot on the show comes on the week their ninth studio album ‘Concrete & Gold’ was unleashed to the world.

Boasting the tracks ‘Run’, ‘The Sky Is A Neighbourhood’ and 'The Line', ‘Concrete and Gold’ also features guest slots from Sir Paul McCartney, Justin Timberlake and Shawn Stockman of nineties R&B group Boyz II Men.

Aired in August, Metallica’s appearance on Carpool Karaoke alongside comedian Billy Eichner saw them sing ‘Part of Your World’ from the 1989 Disney animated film The Little Mermaid together with the Rihanna song ‘Diamonds’.

In June 2016, Red Hot Chili Peppers filmed an episode where they sang 'Californication', 'Under the Bridge', 'By the Way', ‘The Zephyr Song’ and ‘Don’t Stop’, ‘Food Glorious Food’ from Oliver and a previously unheard song called ‘Heemi Lheemey’ that they claim they wrote while high as teenagers.

Other antics included Corden and Kiedis pulling over for a wrestle in a front garden and the pair taking their tops off alongside Flea towards the end of the ride.
