Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn got to meet Metallica ahead of the band’s show at Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago.
The actor, who played metalhead Eddie Munson in the hit Netflix show, got to hang with his heroes backstage and even jam out with them on ‘Master of Puppets’ – the song his character so memorably played in the Upside Down in Stranger Things.
Much like Kate Bush with ‘Running up that Hill’, the inclusion of the song has seen a huge resurgence of interest and has introduced Metallica to a host of new fans.
Metallica frontman James Hetfield told Quinn: “I’m a big fan of Stranger Things. Have been since Season One. My kids and I, it’s a bonding experience for us.”
He also thanked the actor, who learned to play ‘Master of Puppets’ on guitar, for doing the song justice.
Quinn replied: “It’s all I was listening to for two years. I feel very connected to you guys.”

Footage shared by Netflix and Metallica showed Quinn ably jamming on the song with the band ahead of their Thursday evening headlining slot at Lollapalooza.
“We’d like to make an announcement: Metallica is now a five-piece,” Lars Ulrich joked.
The band also presented him with a B.C. Rich guitar much like the one Eddie Munson used in Stranger Things, which Hetfield says they can ‘f—k it all up’ by signing the body.
They then gave the actor an all-access pass that they said would get him into any Metallica show.
“It was amazing! Opportunities to play ‘Master of Puppets’ with the most iconic metal band of all time don’t come around very often,” Quinn later told Netflix’s Tudum.
“A story for the grandkids.”
