Stones, Floyd, Zep Amongst Music's Richest

The Times have announced their annual music rich list

The Sunday Times has released details of its annual UK music rich list, with members of four bands making up a large proportion of the top 50.

The highest placed rocker is Rolling Stone Sir Mick Jagger, who’s estimated £190m at number 7 lands a couple of places higher than his bandmate Keith Richards at number 10 with £175m. Fellow Rolling Stone Charlie Watts landed at number 26 with £85m. Ronnie wood dropped out of the top 50 this year after his expensive divorce in 2009.

All three surviving Led Zep members made the top 50 with Robert Plant at 29 with £80m, Jimmy Page at 33 with £75m (equal with Queen’s Brian May) and John Paul Jones struggling along with just £45m down at number 41 in the list.

As well as Brian May, Queen’s Roger Taylor (35th, £70m) and John Deacon (38th, £60m) also made the top 50.

Pink Floyd’s surviving members also did well in the list with Roger Waters valued at £85m and placed at number 26 (equal with Charlie Watts), David Gilmour a few places back at 32 with £80m and Nick Mason on £50m at number 51.

Other notables in the list include Eric Clapton at 18 with an estimated £125m, Rod Stewart at number 22 with £105m, Bowie at number 23 with £100m and Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne at 24 with £95m.

Who won? Edgar Bronfman, that’s who. He’s the head honcho at Warner Music Group who moved to the UK recently. He pushes former number 1, Clive Calder (former owner of the Zomba record company) into second place.
