The Walsall quartet arrived on stage to a hero’s welcome from ‘The Broken Army’ and they played a blistering headline set that boasted anthems including ‘Stay All Night’ and ‘Better'.

After an epic drum solo from Robyn Haycock to a rapturous response from the audience, singer Rich Moss said “We’ve got something new for you” before they launched into two previously unheard songs that hint at great things to come from new album ‘Ain’t Always Easy’.

Having opened Planet Rockstock’s Main Stage in 2016, the band effortlessly made the leap to Stage 2 headliners with a set that whet the appetite nicely ahead of their biggest tour yet in 2018 and Friday night headline slot at Steelhouse Festival - the latter of which Rich announced live on stage.

Earlier on, London based rockers Cairo Son got things off to a pounding, thunderous start fusing dark, bluesy riffs with singer Magdy’s powerful and gravelly vocals.

Just like the headliners, they melded tracks from their first two studio albums ‘Heart Against The Feather’ and follow-up ‘Storm Clouds’ with new material with great aplomb.

Cranking up the intensity, Cornish powerhouses King Creature dispatched a pulsating set that kicked off with a blitzkrieg of pure unadulterated melodic metal.

True showmen, captivating frontman Dave Kellaway urged crowd singalongs with guitarist Matt K Vincent throwing some epic poses and they even delved into Thin Lizzy-esque territory with ‘Breaking Down’ and showcased another side of their art with the powerful rock ballad ‘Can You Forgive Me?’.

Next up, the ridiculously talented virtuoso Danny Bryant performed a masterclass in blues rock – a versatile and accomplished guitar player, it’s little wonder he picked up so many plaudits over the course of 18-year career.

The Main Stage at Planet Rockstock opens today with performances from RavenEye, Bernie Tormé, Rock Goddess, Bernie Marsden and headliners Monster Truck.
