Residents in Stoke-On-Trent are campaigning to get statues of their most famous rock exports – Lemmy and Slash – erected in the city.

The NME reports that campaigners in Stoke-on-Trent have handed in a petition to the local council to have statues of the former Guns N' Roses man and the current Motörhead frontman designed in city centre to honour the rock n roll heritage of the area.

According to Thisisstaffordshire.co.uk, a petition to get statues of both men erected has gathered 318 signatures so far and has been presented to the city council’s economic development overview and scrutiny committee.

A spokesman for the campaigners has written to the committee, saying: "We firmly believe it could be a landmark that is really quite individual and exclusive to the area, and would definitely be a popular attraction for fans of rock music worldwide."

A source for the committee has said it would gladly work with campaigners, but that it was unlikely any funding for the project would be available.

Slash was born in London but lived in Stoke until he was six years old, while Lemmy was born and raised in nearby Burslem.
