Steven Tyler confirms Aerosmith will be 'gone for good' after next tour
Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler has once again confirmed the band will embark on a swansong tour before saying goodbye forever.
Speaking to US radio host Howard Stern to promote his solo country album ‘We're All Somebody from Somewhere’, Tyler said the shows will open in 2017.
"I love this band. I really do,” he said. “I want to squash every thought that anybody might have about 'the band's over.'
"We're doing a farewell tour - but it's only because it's time. We've never done that."
Pressed as to whether Aerosmith will be “gone for good” following the shows, Tyler answered with an affirmative “yeah”.
However, he joked the tour will last “probably forever” and, citing The Who’s several farewells, added: “Can you believe that? How about KISS? They did 19 farewell tours.”
Tyler’s comments echo those made in a Rolling Stone interview back in April, when he said: "We're probably doing a farewell tour.
“Look, there's two bands that still have the original members, us and the Stones. I'm grateful for that. Whether we do a farewell tour or go into the studio and do another record, I'm just excited about it."
Earlier this year Tyler buried the hatchet with Joe Perry after the guitarist poked fun at his band mate’s music.
"If I didn't know him when I heard the song I'd go, 'It's okay, next,'" Perry controversially told USA Today. "He's got a f***ing rhinestone cowboy hat going, 'Yippee ki yay.' I don't know what else to say about that."
Initially blasting Perry as “jealous”, Tyler added: "I've read what Joe has said but then I really, really, couldn't be here doing what I'm doing now if it wasn't for Joe Perry.
“It's a strange Catch-22, but if you slow down enough you get to see it. It's a obvious as balls on a tall dog. I wouldn't be anywhere without those guys, so I'm as grateful as I can be."
‘We're All Somebody from Somewhere’ is released on 15th July.
